Default How would you like to earn 100k by having fun? A game show-esque contest

The Premise:
I suddenly am 106,000 gold richer.

I am a PvPer, and while I do PvE to kill time, I already have everything I want in PvE, and want to give one lucky person a good chunk of change.

But rather than just have you guys do such boring stuff like write an essay on why you deserve it, or tell me how much you love me, or such stuff like that, I've devised a game show-esque style contest.

The prize? 100,000 gold...just for playing along!

Additionally, my guild is going to fail hard in the Guru tournament, but I'll use my TRP i earn from it for more gold, so I might throw in even more gold . Who knows?!

How this'll work / how do you play:
It's pretty simple. This coming Sunday (day after the Guru tournament) I will post a mission. Missions are the goal for the day, and you'll be given a full 2 days (48 hours) to complete the mission. Each day, I'll reveal a new mission. Missions can be everything from solving a riddle, to doing something in-game, to playing a freeware game, to more! Each player that wins a mission will earn points, starting from a set total for that mission for the guy in 1st, and the next persons each get 1 point less, until only 1 point is given. (You will always earn at least 1 point if you beat the mission)

On top of this, there will be Quests, which will most of the time be connected to the mission in some way, and be bonus content. Beating quests can earn you bonus points (a good way to catch up), Items (one shot abilities a player can use at any time to change the game in some way), and more. Quests cycle out with the missions too, however MOST quests are one shot deals that after a player completes them, can't be turned in by the other players.

This will go on for approx. 2-3 weeks. For a total of ~14-21 missions (depending on popularity and player size). At the end, the person with the most points will earn 100,000 gold. There may be a possibility of prizes for 2nd and 3rd as well in amounts of gold too.

There has to be a catch!
Nope. Have fun, complete some challenges, do well and show how multi faceted you are, and win 100k. All there is to it!

This contest will begin Sunday, July 13th, 2008. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here. Thanks.

Current Missions going on: #11, see page 7.

Seeing as it is Sunday, I'm the only person to respond... I'll take my 100k gold now if that is alright.

No, actually, I'll be glad to be apart. I got nothing better to do anyways except Vanquishing.

Alrighty then.

To clarify some stuff:
-Points are given out (unless specified otherwise) in order of completion and posting on this topic. For example, if Snograt beats Mission #1 and posts a screenshot first, he gets however many points the mission says (say, 10). Then I post a screenshot showing I owned, I got second, so I get 9 points. And so on. This goes down until 1 point, where anyone else can post and get the 1 point.
-Quests are completely optional, but give rewards. Some quests are one time deals that can only be "turned in" by the person who posts the screenshot doing so, first, others can be completed by anyone for the rewards.
-Items are earned from (some) quests, and their nature will only be told to the player who earned them, so there will be some mystery and intrigue there.
-You can post new posts with screenshots for quests, unless otherwise specified. ie: Snograt completes Mission 1, then the next day completes a Quest for it. He can (rather, should) post again with a screenshot of him beating the Quest.
-Screenshots are to be posted in this topic, and any screenshots sent by PM do not count.

Mission #1: Challenge at The Great Northern Wall...
Things have been quiet...too quiet.

Rules:
-You must play the mission "The Great Northern Wall", in Hard Mode, without any Monks (including secondaries, no Monk secondaries), with 3 heroes or henchmen. (I do not recommend henchmen, obviously.) No other players. You have to make it to the end where you start running from the Charr.
-You must take a screenshot of your player running from the Charr at the end, with an uncovered party window screen clearly showing no Monks, on his way to Captain Callahan (just being in reach of seeing him is fine, don't trigger his cutscene obviously.), and your screenshot must be taken with the game windowed, and you clearly logged into Guild Wars Guru in the background, your "Welcome, [name here]" must be clearly seen with your name on it to prevent fake entries (hey, it could happen), along with the aforementioned party window, and skillbar for your screenshot to count. All screenshot rules on Guru apply (so no other people's names, etc. Black them out!!)
-This mission is worth 10 points.

Quests for this Mission:
*Complete this challenge (remember, no Monks!) with no PvE skills or consumables. In order to complete this quest, you not only need the above screenshot for this challenge, but you need to take the screenshot as the mission begins with your entire inventory opened (including bags, so F8 owns. :P) showing no consumables in them (dump them in storage!). Your screenshot also needs to display no PvE skills on its bar. Additionally, you must take your Mission screenshot with an /age clearly seen in the chat window at the end of the mission showing how long you've been in the map and also with your entire inventory opened (if you die at the end point don't worry about it) This quest can be turned in by anyone, and is not a one shot deal. Reward for completion: +2 points.
*Complete the bonus to this mission. You must take & post a screenshot showing the picture of the bonus sword graphic that shows up when you complete the bonus. This quest can be turned in by anyone, and is not a one shot deal. Reward for completion: +1 points.

I know there is some steep screenshot requirements there, but I am trying to limit the amount of people who could possibly fake their way to the 100k. It's 100k, it's my money, and I want it to go to the right person, and I hope this doesn't annoy the legit people too much.

Okay go, you got 2 days to do this . The next mission will be posted tomorrow at this time, and you'll have 2 days to do that one too.

I chose this time to try and be fair to everyone, but there will be missions that give equal points to people as well too so!

It's probably a bit unfair to people who only have Prophecies or only have Monk chars, but meh, there are other challenges and such. (a lot more of em)

Also no, no Smitemonks allowed, I wouldn't want you to totally run down PvE with your epic smite domage. (But seriously, no monks. :P)

It's a fairly easy challenge though, completely doable. (I made sure to go through it without Monks before hand.)

I tried to make all the challenges balanced so that a majority of people can do it, and there are very few of them that I think would shut a ton of people down. ;/ I really tried to balance the fun aspect, because I think this is a pretty "fun" challenge, to run through a mission with no Monks, hardly anyone ever does something like that, y'know? I'm sorry if it's unfair to someone who only has a Monk character, I'm not trying to alienate anyone, but you'll still have plenty of chances to come out on top regardless.

EDIT:
Copying from another forum

There will be stuff that don't have the "time limited" stuff. Plus there are quests to catch up and such. You always get 1 point anyways at the least for the time limited stuff, so you should still do them if you can. On the first mission alone, if you do both quests and the actual mission, you're guaranteed at least 4 points, which is pretty good. I'll possibly try to mix up the start times too. About 50% of the missions are time limited, the other half aren't, so you guys have a good chance and should try anyways!

Also depending on how money goes for me (zkey predictions, ATs, etc) I might make prizes available for 2nd and 3rd place as well.

Yep. Just no Mo's. Ritualists and Paragons and such are completely allowed, as are all non-Monk self heals and such. 8)

You did miss the part where you weren't logged into Guru being shown, if you could just take a picture of you logged into Guru (with your Welcome "character name here" in the upper right) with that same character with the game windowed, that would be great? ^^ Sorry to be anal about it, but y'know...rules are rules?

Alright, here are screens of the beginning and the end, copied into Paint as JPG images that show the Welcome, Red just barely poking off the edge of the screen; and also inventory windows for the consumable-less quest. Following that is the in-game screenshot showing a bonus completion for the other quest.

End: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=95oq45&s=4
